Colleen's Journey

Elmo Makes Everyone Happy!!!

Since many of you have watched Chloe grow up through the blog, I thought you would get a kick out of this picture! GiGi came over this morning and Chloe surprised her in her Halloween Elmo costume!!! Its sooo cute…it looks like it came off the set of Sesame Street. Besides the fact that I am concerned Chloe is going to get over-heated while wearing it, it is perfect! Mom does an amazing job of spending every moment with Chloe that she can – even if its just stopping by for for two minutes to get a kiss and a hug…they see each other almost daily. Luckily for me and Billy, mom is also a built-in babysitter!

Mom and Michelle are taking off this weekend to visit Billie in Des Moines. They are going to the Dave Matthews show (I’m so jealous) and spending lots of quality time with one of our favorite girls 🙂

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that everyone is doing great. We will know a lot more in the next couple weeks about mom’s treatment options, but she is doing wonderfully and has a great attitude!

We met a very nice woman named Christine at the OCRF luncheon a couple weeks ago. We met Christine at the perfect time – she is a beautiful, young woman who has been living with Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer for 11 years and has actually never gone into remission – she just calls it periods of “non-treatment.” Meeting her helped our perspectives in the sense that we cannot get rattled by the word “recurrence.” Mom can have a long, wonderful life and just accept the fact that she will have to have treatment periodically. As my friend Sara put it, “treat it like a chronic illness.” That is exactly what we are doing. We truly believe “attitude is everything”…and as my mom has said a million times, “pick a good one!”

Love,

Nicole

P.S. Please keep Christine in your prayers 🙂
