Colleen's Journey

Just another day in paradise…

Aloha! So, we are here! Kauai is AMAZING!! The Hyatt staff has gone out of their way to make this a trip of a lifetime. Our flight to the island was pretty uneventful, except for when Danielle mentioned that she and Chloe were watching Magic Mike. Not the best choice of movie for a 5 year old. The kids were amazing on the flight and the flight attendants took good care of all of us. When we arrived at our hotel, my mom had 2 bottles of champagne, desserts (courtesy of the Hyatt), and a beautiful bouquet of Hawaiian flowers (courtesy of our Aunt Kathy) waiting in her room. After we got settled, we all met up on the terrace for a delicious dinner, amazing ocean views complete with a beautiful sunset and great music. We all went to bed pretty early as it had been a really long day. We spent today at our cabana by the pool. Chloe, Dan and Pete love the water slide! Blake and Luke love the saltwater lagoon. We drank mimosas and relaxed and laughed all day. It was perfect. We all wondered how mom would do on this trip. We visited her pulmonologist on Tuesday morning. We discussed further treatment options versus pallitative care. She told the doctor she is tired and understands what is happening, but that she is willing to try the Abraxane. From her appointment, we went to Scottsdale Shea to have her lungs drained to make her more comfortable. She had 300cc drained and felt immediate relief. In other news, she had a MRI on Saturday. Thankfully the cancer is not in her bone, but is sitting on her spine from her cervical to thoracic vertebrae. She is in quite a bit of pain and is short of breath, but her spirits are incredibly high!! She looks as beautiful as ever and is enjoying each moment with us, her sister, and her precious grand babies. She keeps saying how blessed she is. Truly, we all are. Cancer sucks, but what doesn’t suck is being surrounded by the people you love most. Go show someone you love them. The only thing better than the words are the actions. xx
