Colleen's Journey

We love you, Mom

Our best-friend and mother passed away surrounded by the love and comfort of her four daughters early this morning. She fought a long, difficult battle with ovarian cancer, but is now resting peacefully. Our precious mom lived her life gracefully and beautifully. We can all learn something from her amazing example. We ask that you continue to pray for our family’s peace and contentment.

We will make information about her services available when details are finalized.

Colleen Bootz Drury (October 2, 1954 – February 23, 2013)

She was a true treasure of a person and, although she is gone, I hope you are able to find comfort in knowing that she is at peace. I found these words comforting when my Mom passed.

“From A Loved One in Heaven”

I would not have you grieve for me today. Nor weep beside my vacant chair; Could you but know my daily portion here you would not, could not, wish me there.

I know now why He said, “Ear hath not heard;”
I have no words, no alphabet or even if I had I dare not tell because you could not bear it yet.

So only this – I am the same, yet changed like Him! A joy more rich and strong than I had dreamed that any heart could hold and all my life is one gald song.

Sometimes when you are talking to Our Lord He turns and speaks to me, Dear Hearts, in that rare moment you and I are just the distance of a word apart.

And so my loved one, do not grieve for me around the gamily board today; instead rejoice for We are one in Him and so I am not far away.

    With sincere sympathy, Sue

I saved this poem that I had received when My mom passed away, and it seemed to help a little.
Your mother is always with you…She’s the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street. She’s the cool hand on your brow when you’re not well. Your mother lives inside your laughter. She crystallized in every tear drop. She’s the map you follow with every step that you take. She’s your first love and your first heart break….and nothing on earth can separate you. Not time,Not space…Not even death will ever separate you from your mother….You carry her inside of you always. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Maybe we can meet you all someday. You have been so caring in sharing your thoughts through Colleen’s journey. She is smiling down on you! God bless you all, Linda

  • Georganne Gillis

This poem is a metaphor, both of death and of your mom, a woman of grace, strength and majesty:

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength, and I stand and watch until at last she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, ‘There she goes!’

Gone where? Gone from my sight … that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says, ‘There she goes!’ there are other eyes watching her coming and their voices ready to take up the glad shouts ‘Here she comes!'”

Godspeed Colleen and my deepest sympathy to you all.

    Dearest Drury Girls,
I have spent the better part of the afternoon reading your blogs and remembering Colleen. What an incredible, emotional journey you have had. I loved reading about your love for her and how you relished every second of her beautiful smile and her wonderful personality. Of course you will miss her terribly. In those moments of the worst pain and sadness, remember how proud of you she was and how much she enjoyed being your mom. You are all lucky to have each other. Love, Kim

  • I am so glad to have had the opportunity to meet your mom. Here is a poem that my mom loved and would like to share with all of you.

Do not Stand at my grave and weep
i am not there, I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the Diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle Autumn rain
When you awaken in the morning hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quite birds in circled flight
    I am the soft stars
    that shine at night
Do not stand at my grave and cry,

I am not there, I did not die

    God bless you all.

My heart truly breaks for Colleen’s girls and grandchildren. She was truly one in a million. She was the most sincere, devoted, brave, and dedicated person I have ever met. I will never forget her devotion to her family or her job. She taught me so much. She was also the most forgiving person I have ever met! I am better for knowing her. I will never forget the trial in globe that she helped me with. She not only drove from Phoenix to Globe every day to help, but she drove home every day to be with her daughter Billie. She would stay and offer to do whatever task, no matter how tedious or how boring. She then would make the long drive home

  • Dawn Clark

My heart truly breaks for Colleen’s girls, their spouses, and grandchildren. They truly have carried on her legacy. She was one in a million. She was the most sincere, devoted, brave, and dedicated person I have ever met. I will never forget her devotion to her family or her job. She taught me so much. She was also the most forgiving person I have ever met! I am better for knowing her. I will never forget the trial in Globe that we did together. She not only drove from Phoenix to Globe every day to help, but she drove home every day to be with her daughter Billie. She would stay and offer to do whatever task, no matter how tedious, small, or boring. She then would make the long drive home just to make the long drive back to Globe again the next morning. There was never a more selfless person in the world. Any one who knew Colleen truly had their life enriched! I will remember her always and will have her girls and their families in my thoughts and prayers always! She will live on in the memories of her family and those who knew her and those she has helped through her foundation. She will not be forgotten!

I too have been batteling this awful disease since 2010. I never met your mother but she called me to let me know about the wonderful treatment she was receiving in Tucson. This helped me decide to go there for treatment. I am now, and have been since then a patient of Dr. Chambers. I will never forget her encouraging words. I will always remember her for taking the time to call me when I was going thru so many conflicting emotions. i only wish I had know her. . All of you are in my thoughts and prayers. Much love to you all.
