Colleen’s Dream
As some of you already know, mom’s health situation has changed a lot in the last few months. I will let her fill you in on the details, but the long and short of this post is to let you know we are not taking anything for granted and making the most of each day. We just got back from the most amazing trip to Disneyland and will be heading to Hawaii in a couple weeks. Over the last year, we have been working really hard at getting our foundation, Colleen’s Dream, off the ground. We have wanted to “do it right,” so its been a lot of work lining up the proper legal teams, accountants, and board members. Billy and I have also spent a chunk of time at Johns Hopkins meeting with ovarian cancer researchers in the effort to figure out the best use of our time and money. So, after months of crossing things off our “to-do” list, we are proud to announce that we have received our 501c3 status and are officially in the business of changing lives!! Colleen’s Dream Foundation will fund scientific research for early detection testing for ovarian cancer. The first two years we will give grants to Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson and Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. After two years, we will begin taking national applications and will fund the “very best ideas” no matter where they are located. We are putting together a team of respected medical professionals to help us develop criteria for our grants and to assist in the review process. Our website will be designed by Lucid in Tempe, Arizona and should be live sometime in February. We plan to have our first event sometime in April, possibly the first Sunday of the month. We will keep you posted on details. In the meantime, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
