Colleen's Journey

The Scary Place

We are there. Our mom’s health is changing quickly and not for the better. We are currently with her at the hospital where she was admitted late last night with significant fluid build-up in her lungs. She will undergo a thoracentesis to drain the fluid in the morning. We plan to bust her out of here early enough tomorrow to enjoy a beautiful Christmas Eve dinner and a good old-fashioned slumber party. In the face of the most difficult and dire circumstances, our Superwoman is handling herself exactly as everyone would expect, with grace, class, conviction, and an unwavering positive attitude and outlook. As always, we her children, try to be strong for her, and instead she takes the lead and beats us to the punch. All of us girls, our husbands/boyfriend, and children are spending as much time with her as possible and plan to walk through the remainder of her journey holding hands and with our heads held high. We have many blessings for which we are very grateful. The gift of time and knowledge is one of them; it allows us to have difficult discussions and make important decisions. More than anything, we know not to waste one precious moment and do all we can to create cherished memories. This knowledge, while difficult to digest, has meant so much to us that we wanted to share it with all of you as well. We have endeavored to be honest on this blog and do not want to waiver when it counts the most. Thank you for your continued love and support. One day, together, we are going to change the face of ovarian cancer so women who follow behind our beautiful mom do not find themselves in this scary place. Love and peace, Nicole, Dani, B, Michelle
