Holy Atlanta!
Nicole, Chloe, Michelle and I are in Atlanta, Georgia and have been very busy. When we landed yesterday afternoon, we immediately went to a television station where “Atlanta Live” is filmed. Carlos and I were the first guests. I was SO nervous! The interview went smoothly and the 15 minutes seemed more like 2. I was able to tell my story and stress the importance of women advocating for themselves in the healthcare system. Carlos was able to put in some plugs for Kicking for the Cure, The Georgia Force, The Ovarian Cancer Institute and the upcoming fundraisers.
Afterwards, we were joined by the OCI’s PR director, Lynn, for dinner at Buckhead Dinner. We had a wonderful dinner, amazing banana cream pie, and truly enjoyable company. We finally made it to our cabin on Lake Lanier at Emerald Point around 11 p.m. last night and were completely exhausted. Although we had plans to work out this morning, when Nicole came in to wake Michelle and I up, it was already 10 a.m.! We quickly got dressed and began to make our way into downtown Atlanta where we had a delicious lunch with a sweet and generous OCI board member, Ian Walker. After lunch, we toured the OCI facilities located on Georgia Tech’s campus. Libby and Nathan were so sweet to take the time to show us around and answer our many questions. It was so nice to meet them, as well as the founding doctor! Truly special people! We were greatly impressed with the progress that is being made through their vigorous research efforts. One day, eliminating cancer may be as easy as a half-day outpatient procedure!
Tonight we are enjoying some pizza and a glass of wine from the deck of our cabin over looking the lake. It’s beautiful!
Tomorrow we will head to Carlos’ game against Tampa Bay. Keep your finger’s crossed for him as each field goal and extra point he makes helps to advance research and raise awareness for ovarian cancer (not to mention lead the team to victory!).
Have a wonderful evening and weekend.
Love,
Colleen
