She is a survivor and thriver!!!!

Hi there!

Things have been going well lately. Mom is so excited to be done with treatment and “get her life back.” She and Dad are traveling this week. They are in California right now…a couple days in Laguna Nigel for a conference and visiting some friends at their house in Big Bear. They will then travel to Des Moines this weekend to visit Billie and watch some Drake basketball!

We could not be more thrilled with mom being done with treatment. 15 months ago, all we wanted was to get to this point…where she/we could move on. For so long, our lives revolved around taking her to chemo, making her feel better when she didnt feel well, and making the most of her good days. During this time, we would often have conversations such as “When I/you are done with treatment, I/we will….” We are here!!! I know she still has some side-effects from the chemo, but overall, we are doing some of the things we would talk about…yoga classes, long walks, planning trips to the cabin in Forest Lakes…thinking about businesses we want to start!

During the last 15 months, it was such an honor for all of us to be her caretakers. I am so appreciative of the opportunity to help my mom. She is amazing! So, now that we are somewhat “relieved” of that duty, we get to live life with the most inspiring cancer-survivor there is! We understand that the future is uncertain, so we all have to learn to take one day at a time. Nothing is guaranteed for any of us, right? So, long story short, we have all learned so much and will carry those important lessons with us.
