Tucson here we come!

Smiling woman wearing Superman logo shirt.

It looks like we will be setting up camp in Tucson for the next few months. Yesterday, my mom, Danielle, Marie and I went to Tucson to meet with Dr. Setsuko Chambers at the UofA. We were blessed to get an appointment with her so quickly…. thanks to my dear friend Sara Barton who is doing her residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and was so generous in getting in touch with Dr. Chambers and asking her to move my mom’s appointment up. We have heard many great things about Dr. Chambers, as she has been in gynecology/oncology since the 1980’s and is the endowed chair in ovarian cancer research at UofA. The UofA is on the cutting edge of research and we are excited to be getting my mom such great care.

An interesting situation in Arizona is that there is a crisis in regards to the shortage of gynecological/oncologists in the state. As of right now, there are only 4 such specialists. Dr. Chambers is aware of this crisis and she gave us her direct telephone number to pass on to my mom’s doctors in Phoenix so they can reach her and get their patients in quickly for care. I love the fact that she takes women’s health so seriously.

My mom is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. This means we will head down south on Monday and plan to stay there until at least Friday. The doctor said that depending on her recovery, she should plan to be in the hospital for 4-5 days. We will be continuing my mom’s chemotherapy treatment in Tucson after the surgery so that Dr. Chambers can closely monitor her progress. She will undergo 6 sessions of chemotherapy with treatment on days 1,2 and 8. Looks like Tucson is going to get to know the Drury family! I told my mom that if the baby has to be born in Tucson, so be it! Please keep her in your prayers as she undergoes this procedure. If you have any restaurant suggestions, please let us know!

Thank you for all the love this blog has been getting! I appreciate all the emails and support! My mom and I have been reading the comments and she said she is excited to get on here to do some posting of her own! As I said before, and will probably say a MILLION times, the support is incredible and means everything in a time like this!

One of my parents dear friends recently said, “cancer just messed with the wrong woman!” I couldnt agree more!!!

Other news on the Drury/Cundiff front….I passed the Arizona Bar Exam!
