Viva La Cure!
Hi Everyone: I actually started to write a blog last week indicating that I really had nothing to report except the fact that I was in bed from the 18th of December to about January 4th. I was having a lot of back pain and was just feeling terribly weak. Of course 2 days later, I realized the port-a-cath in my chest looked red and was beginning to feel tender. Called the doctor in Tucson and was put on antibiotics. By Monday afternoon I was beginning to get very concerned because the tenderness and redness was increasing. I called our friend Dr. John and he said (put the lime in the coconut… I wish!) to come in. I met John the next morning (Jan 8th) at the ER and was admitted to have the port-a-cath removed, started on IV antibiotics and had another port-a-cath put back in on Friday.
The girls were great company and Dr. John came by everyday to check on me. By Friday I was ready to get home! I had the port-a-cath placed Friday morning and by Friday evening my chest looked and felt like I was beaten with a bat. If you ever need an interventional radiologist I have one to highly recommend and one to stay clear of.
Needless to say I am feeling much better this morning; good thing, as Billie and I are heading down to Tucson tomorrow morning for my 4th round of IP chemotherapy. We will be home on Friday evening which I am already looking forward to.
Billie will then be leaving on Monday to go back to Drake. We have had a really wonderful time having her home with us for the past month. She will be returning the next weekend as her boyfriend Cooper who plays tennis for Gonzaga will be playing the UofA and ASU next weekend. I hope to be back on my feet so I can go watch him play.
This weekend the Drake Board of Trustee’s will be in Phoenix for an event at the Heard Museum on Friday night and then on Saturday they will be coming to our home for dinner. The girls have helped to set this up and they will be hosting the party with Bill while I recuperate. I feel badly I will not be able to attend but I need to stay on schedule with the chemotherapy.
More fun Drake news… the men’s basketball team is playing awesome and are now number 26 in the country!! Go Drake Bulldogs!
Least I forget ASU is now number 22 in the country! WOW!
Thank you all for your continued support and encouragement, I just could not do this without you!
Love, Colleen
